J. Steven Spires
Children's Book Author
J. Steven Spires or "Steven," is a retired elementary teacher in Slidell, Louisiana. He started out studying journalism at the University of Mississippi in Oxford where his love for writing found daily expression through a local newspaper as well as the university radio and television stations.
Later, Steven earned his Master's of Education degree from the University of New Orleans and settled down to teach third grade and raise five mischief-makers with his wife Eve. Writing remained on the wayside—until the hurricane came.
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit south Louisiana, and Steven's family had to evacuate their home for a time. During that period, Steven began writing the first of many children's stories. He shares, "It's hard to believe that it took a hurricane to launch my writing career, but since that first story, I have not stopped writing. Hurricane Katrina may have flooded New Orleans with water, but it flooded my mind with stories."
Since Steven started writing, He's published multiple children's books primarily for early readers inspired by his home state of Louisiana and its unique history. His teacher's heart ensures that every story is rich with educational elements to inspire learning.
