LOUISIANA-INSPIRED STORIES

J. Steven Spires or "Steven" is a retired elementary teacher in Slidell, Louisiana. He started out studying journalism at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS where his love for writing found daily expression through a local newspaper as well as the university radio and television stations.

Later, Steven earned his Master's of Education degree from the University of New Orleans and settled down to teach third grade and raise five mischief-makers with his wife Eve. Writing remained on the wayside—until the hurricane came.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit south Louisiana, and Steven's family had to evacuate their home for a time. During that period, Steve began writing the first of many children's stories, and he hasn't stopped since!

Steve is a member of SCBWI (Society of Children's book Writers and Illustrators), and he writes stories that both inspire and educate early readers through engaging, Louisiana-inspired adventures.

"It's hard to believe that it took a hurricane to launch my writing career, but since that first story, I have not stopped writing. Hurricane Katrina may have flooded New Orleans with water, but it flooded my mind with stories."
